Seven habits to help you age happily

senior couple

7 habits to help you age happily is a very worthwhile article in the Telegraph. It is written by Miriam Akhtar, who is a psychologist who specialises in Positive Ageing. In the article, she shares her tips to age healthily and happily.

She points out that little is ever written about the other side of ageing – the advantages of later life, the gains that range from wisdom and confidence to wealth. It’s true that the body is getting weaker but the sense of who you are and what’s important to you gets stronger with age. As the French say: “je suis bien dans ma peau” – I feel good in my skin.

There are 2 important concepts mentioned in the article:

  • Later life is the time to give up sweating the small stuff and concentrate on what’s truly important for you.
  • Decluttering your mind from people and situations that no longer bring pleasure or well-being will clear the space for the new to come in.

She then goes on to discuss 7 happiness habits

  1. Practise gratitude
  2. Savour the positives
  3. Adopt an optimistic mindset
  4. Live life with meaning
  5. Develop your strengths
  6. Focus outwards
  7. Learn to let go

If you do not relate instantly to what she is saying, then you are strongly advised to go read the full article.  You won’t regret it.
