Some Productive Ways To Spend Your Time When You’re Bed Bound

being bed-bound

This is a guest post by Sam Peters.

Being stuck in bed is no-one’s idea of fun and can in fact be very damaging to your self-esteem, never mind to your fitness, your relationships and your career.

But being bed ridden does have upsides and if you’re going to survive the experience you need to focus on these rather than the negatives. In particular, being stuck in bed gives you time which you can then use to accomplish a whole range of things and to develop yourself in a variety of ways. Read on and we’ll look at some of the most productive and effective ways you can spend your time stuck in bed.

Write a Book

They say that everyone has a book in them, but who really has time to start writing a novel? Well the answer to that question is probably ‘someone who can’t leave their bed’. Writing a book can help you to learn about yourself, to feel a sense of accomplishment and possibly even to earn some cash so it’s a brilliant project to start.

A book is one thing you could create, but there are many others too – especially thanks to the tools that the internet gives us. Whether you want to sew an impressive cross-stich pattern, create a blog, get some 3D models created or compose some music, now is the time to let your creative juices flow. You may just find this is one of your most productive periods…

learn Arabic

Most of us have huge gaps in our knowledge and at least some areas in which we would like to improve. Perhaps for instance you only speak one language and would like to learn another, maybe you’ve always been fascinated in the renaissance, or maybe you’d like to learn electronic engineering. You could take up a new hobby like painting, or playing the piano (you can bring an electric keyboard into bed), and either way you’ll be keeping your brain active while using your newly free time constructively.

Work Through Classic Books and Films

There are certain films and books that are ‘must views’, which include such classics as ‘Lord of the Rings’, ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, ‘The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’, ‘The Complete Works of Shakespeare’, ‘1984’…. The list goes on. If you often find yourself left out of these conversations about the classics, then working through a few of them may be a great way to expand your knowledge and to escape your current situation for a while.

Earn Money

Finally, thanks to the web there are now plenty of ways you can easily earn cash from the comfort of your home which might help you to pay for medical supplies.

As you can see then there are plenty of things you can do with the time you have spare. Centuries ago most people had some kind of project that gave their life purpose, whether that was translating the Bible into Jamaican or researching gravity. Most of us don’t have time for such creative and intellectual pursuits anymore, but you do. While your body recovers, let your mind wander!
