happy senior This is a guest post by Ryan Rivera.

A lot of people complain that they are “old” when they approach middle-age. These people are actually looking at the smaller picture. The best is yet to come and life becomes more exciting when you are aging – like wine. Being older does not make you less of a person but will actually bring more color to an already colorful life and make living worthwhile. Here are great reasons why aging is not as bad as you think.

Beating the blues

It is not uncommon for seniors to suffer from the blues. The uncertainties of this world are among the causes of anxiety among the elderly. The good news is that the cure for anxiety is to beat the blues and live life more. Older adults often suffer from depression and those who are able to set goals will survive the blues and live happier. Beat aging anxiety by setting goals on how to live healthy through great nutrition and exercise habits. What makes this activity great is the fact that no one can keep you from doing what makes you happy and end the blues.

Getting lots of vacation

Retirement is never a bad thing. It is a phase of life which means only one thing – time to party! During your working years, you have been spending lots of time earning money and building a great life. Now at the dawn of your life, it is time to put all that effort to use. This is the time that seniors will be able to taste the fruits of their labor and not get all guilty about it. You deserve to have a vacation with all those years of working and working and working. Not only getting a vacation will help you beat stress and anxiety but a way to re-discover a world that awaits you.

More time for others

How many times have you ditched family during Christmas and any other important holiday? Now you don’t have any excuse not to spend time with family on Thanksgiving or any other holiday on the account of work. Since you have no work, you can enjoy the meaning of the season with your children and grandchildren and catch up with life even at the tail end of your stay on this earth.

More time to learn

There are things that you wanted to learn when you were younger but had to put off on the account of lack of time. Now you have no excuse not to learn things that you wanted because you have all the time in the world to do it. Not only will it fulfill your dreams but it would put more meaning to your life as you age gracefully.

You discover things

When you have lots of time on your hands you have the opportunity to discover things that would make your existence more passionate and exciting. You will discover that you don’t have to run errands and have someone do it for you. You will discover that you have a green thumb because you never had the chance to grow plants before.

You get discounts

The best part of getting old is that you are entitled to a lot of perks. Let’s be real. Who would not want to get discounts in this day and age of rising commodity prices? Hotels, restaurants and stores are just some of the places you will get some privileges and discounts just by being – senior. You can get excellent discounts when you visit parks and other amusement centers. You deserve it as a senior who is no longer earning as much as you were before and will have greater needs as you move towards the twilight of your years.

Aging is not a bad thing as long as you know how to handle things. Society’s perception is not making it easy for people to accept aging. We still put a lot of premium on youth and becoming old seems to be like a death sentence. The joke’s on you if you think this way. The reality is that aging is not as bad as a lot of people think.

  1. First of all, I would like to thank you for sharing such a nice post. There are plenty of people who think they have to suffer a lot after they touch 65-70. They begin to dread this time. This post will definitely change their way of thinking as they might not know assistance that can take care of all their needs, is available. By making use of such services, senior citizens will have time for leisure, enough time to meet new people, get the benefit of fair charges and lead a comfortable life. Keep sharing such informative posts.

  2. This is a very positive post, and one that ought to serve as an inspiration. Too many young and middle aged people think that old age is about having to give things up, but while there is truth in this, it’s also an opportunity, like you say, to take things up. My lifelong passion has been archery, but with a regular job and family commitments I was limited like most people to a small weekly pigeonhole for my hobby, maybe managing a little extra shooting if there was a competition. Now I get plenty of time to practice, and I’m improving my technique all the time. I coach the kids too, which is another benefit of being ‘senior’. For me, the discounts are a bonus. What I treasure most is the time to spend with family and friends and catch up on things I missed when I was working.
